The Doves
The Doves were a well known Nigerian band. They were active from 1974 to 1987.
The band started in the old South Eastern State of Nigeria. That state later became Cross River State. It was later split into Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.
The Doves had a special mix of members. Some were from Nigeria. Some were from Cameroon. Others were from Senegal. This mix gave their sound a different feel.
Some key members were:
Billy Bayanak Eugene
Tony Ngon
Lawrence Nsoesie Ebanga (he died in an accident on Njaba Bridge in 1976)
Saint Myron Kalla
Maxwell Udoh (he later became the lead vocalist)
Al-Jackson Nakwe
Levis Esso
Dominic Ikpe
Chikodiri Eze
Etienne Keston
Nzeadi Emmason Ekeagwu
Sam Joseph
Many fans also mention Patrick Udoh. People describe him as the leader and main songwriter. Some stories say his work did not always show well in the credits. This is part of what makes the band’s story interesting.
The Doves became popular for their live band energy and wide sound. After the band ended in 1987, some members moved into ministry. Others stayed around music in different ways.
